The Province of Camiguin equipped members of its Provincial Nutrition Cluster (PNC) on nutrition in emergencies through the conduct of a three-day Training on Nutrition in Emergencies held last January 26-28 at Villa Paraiso Resort and Apartelle, Poblacion, Mambajao, Camiguin. Around 35 participants composed of members of the Provincial and Municipal Nutrition Clusters attended the said training funded by the Provincial Government.

The training was realized immediately after Camiguin Governor and Chairperson of the PNC Hon. Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo signed on January 14, 2015 Executive Order No. 3 “An Order Reorganizing the Provincial Nutrition Committee of the Province of Camiguin”. EO No. 3 adds a special function of the PNC to also act as the Provincial Nutrition Cluster that shall take charge of nutrition management in emergencies and disasters. The same EO was issued in support of NNC Governing Board Resolution No. 1 “Adopting the National Policy on Nutrition Management in Emergencies and Disasters”

With NNC X as trainers and facilitators, the participants were able to gain knowledge and skills on the Philippine emergency management system, nutrition emergencies and nutrition interventions during emergencies including among others rapid nutritional assessment (MUAC Screening and height & weight measurement) IYCF-E, supplementary feeding and micronutrient supplementation.

PPDO Felicisimo M. Gomez and PNAO Gretchen L. Cabalang assured NNC X that the NiEm Preparedness, Response and Recovery Plan developed during the training will be integrated in their Provincial and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plans as well as in their Local Nutrition Action Plans. rebjr
