1 December 2020 – The Media Advocates for Nutrition in Governance in Region 10 (MANGO DIEZ) conducted its second virtual meeting last 1 December 2020 through Zoom platform.
Ten (10) members were present including National Nutrition Council (NNC) X staff headed by Ms. Gladys Mae S. Fernandez, Nutrition Program Coordinator who opened the meeting with a welcome message. Ms. Jasper Marie O. Rucat, Information Officer of Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 10 and Chairperson of the MANGO DIEZ Ad hoc Committee presided over the meeting. Highlights of the meeting include: 1) Stunting and First 1000 Days Short Filmmaking Contest Results; 2) Virtual Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony (RNAC); 3) 2020 Local Media Plan Updates and Suggested Activities for 2021; and 4) Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program.
Nutrition Officer (NO) I Vazamija Therese A. Villasi mentioned during the meeting that a total of nineteen (19) entries were received for the 2020 Short Filmmaking Contest. The screening committee shortlisted the Top 10 entries for public viewing and voting. Voting in Facebook and YouTube started last 5 November until 23 November, overall social media engagement account based on the total number of Facebook and Youtube likes/reactions, views and shares. Final judging was conducted during 26-27 November 2020 which determined the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placers as well as the recipient for the Social Media Favorite Award and MANGO DIEZ Choice Award. Results will be announced in the Virtual RNAC on 11 December 2020.
NO III Sheena Marie G. Talle presented the RNAC, its background, highlights and the details of the awarding. NO III Talle asked PIA 10 through Ms. Rucat for assistance during the event. PIA 10 committed to cover the event and the media partners committed to attend the event.
NO I Villasi shared updates on the 2020 Local Media Plan which includes accomplished airing of radio programs and nutrition plugs, posting of weekly Nutri-Quiz, and the Search for Most Active Social Media Page. Suggested local media activities for 2021 were also presented, highlighting the technical exchange with other NNC media groups and the Nutri-Caravan to increase community awareness on nutrition to nutritionally-depressed areas. It was approved by the MANGO DIEZ members.
Tutok Kainan Supplementation Program was discussed by NO I Villasi. The program’s Soft Launch was conducted last 23 November 2020 at the NNC Headquarters, Taguig City. Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles and NNC Executive Director Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang led the event. The program aims to contribute to the prevention of stunting among children 0-23 months old by improving the quality and quantity of food among nutritionally at-risk pregnant women and children 6-23 months old. Included in the initial priority areas is the Province of Bukidnon with eight (8) identified recipient Local Government Units (LGUs) namely, cities of Valencia and Malaybalay, and the municipalities of Kadingilan, Kibawe, Libona, Manolo Fortich, Quezon and Sumilao. Around 3,300 pregnant women in the province are targeted to benefit from the pilot Tutok Kainan implementation. (NO I Vazamija Therese A. Villasi)
