To highlight every region’s traditional recipes, as well as, other innovative ways of preparing vegetables, the National Nutrition Council Region 02 will hold a “Recipe Development Contest,” as part of this year’s nutrition month celebration. The recipe contest is designed to develop low-cost, easy to prepare, nutritious vegetable dishes and made of indigenous ingredients.
According to Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora Guevarra Maestre, the contest is a pre-activity for the Nutrition Month Celebration this July, with the theme, “Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-araw Itong Ihain”.
The winning regional recipes will be compiled into a recipe book at the national level and will be printed for distribution to the beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilya/ Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)”, Maestre said.
“It will be the NNC’s contribution to improve nutrition among the country’s poorest families. The recipe book will also be distributed to local nutrition workers as an IEC material for helping families improve nutrition in their meals and food intake”, she added.
Qualified recipe entries will be notified on/or before May 4, and the final cook off of the chosen recipes will be on May 14 here in Kainang Filipino Restaurant, Tuguegarao City.
First place winning entry will be awarded P10,000, second and third placers will take home P8,000 and P6,000, respectively, and three others will win the P2,000 consolation prizes.
