The National Nutrition Council Region 02 appealed to Local Government Units (LGUs) to prioritize families with malnourished children for relief packs distribution amid the extension of Enhanced Community Quarantine until April 30, 2020.

In a live interview with PIA Region, Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, stated that LGUs should see to it that families with undernourished should be given adequate and nutritious relief packs in order not to worsen the malnutrition status of the children.

“Yung isa pa po naming gustong iappeal is yung sa distribution of food packs ay sana po unahin po nila and mga barangays na may mataas na undernutrition rate at yung mga families (may listahan naman sa mga barangays) with undernourished children.” she emphasized.

“Ang isa po kasi nating gusting iwasan ay huwag sanang lalala ang nutritional status nitong mga malnourished na bata so far sa ngayon maganda na po ang nutrition situation sa ating rehiyon,” she added.

In addition, she commended the efforts of LGUs to add fresh vegetables, fruits, chickens, meat and eggs in their relief packs which make it healthier and nutritious at the same time.

“ To LGUs at mga private donors tulong tulong tayo namaiwasan ang paglala ng malnutrisyon dito sa ating rehiyon. We should maintain the gains that we have already attained,” she ended. ###JNLB
