The National Nutrition Council–NCR joined partner agencies of the Population Commission-NCR in expressing their support to its “Pamilyang Sakto, Kaya Ko” Campaign which was launched during the Responsible Parenthood & Family Health Fair held on May 14, 2015 at the Andres Bonifacio Integrated School (ABIS) Gymnasium, Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City. The campaign aims to encourage men and women of reproductive age to practice birth spacing in consideration of maternal & child health alongside with socio economic factors. Other agencies that supported the event include DOH-NCRO, PhilHealth, Mandaluyong City Health Office, Mandaluyong Manpower Training and Development Center, Friendly Care Clinic, DKT, and the Department of Agriculture.
The event started with a Zumbarobics led by DOH-NCRO and the program was officially opened by PopCom-NCR Regional Director Lolito R. Tacardon. He gave an overview on the Family Health Fair and this was followed by the launching of “Pamilya Sakto, Kaya Ko” campaign.
NNC-NCR distributed Ten Kumainments flyers and foldable fans printed with Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) to promote and advocate good nutrition among the participants. Nutrition Officer II Theresa Rivas also gave a short lecture on the topic “Wastong Nutrisyon para sa Pamilya” with emphasis on Pinggang Pinoy and the Ten Kumainments. An audio visual presentation on the Ten Kumainments was also shown.
The Familly Health Fair participants composed of Pamilyang Pantawid Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries were able to avail various services provided by POPCOM-NCR and its partner agencies and sponsors such as vegetable seeds distribution, PhilHealth enrollment and DSWD assistance, Responsible Parenthood-Family Planning counseling and services, KATROPA session for the men, Family Development Sessions (FDS) for couples, implant insertion for women, Teen Chat for youth and pampering session for the whole family such as free manicure, pedicure, haircut and massage.
Mandaluyong City Councilor Charisse Abalos and DOH-NCRO Regional Director Ariel I. Valencia also showed support to the event and encouraged all families to practice family planning to become responsible parents to their children. (TAR/MEVF/NNCNCR)
