To ensure the widest dissemination of the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) in Metro Manila, the National Nutrition Council – NCR convened the city and municipal nutrition program coordinators (C/MNPCs) of the 17 local government units and members of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) for a one-day planning workshop to formulate their plan of action for the promotion of NGF. The planning workshop was held at the Robbinsdale Hotel, Quezon City on September 5, 2013.
During the workshop, Nutrition Officer II Anjelia C. San Buenaventura presented the revised Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) which has been approved by the NNC Governing Board in 2012. The NGF consists of ten (10) messages which are primary recommendations to promote good health through proper nutrition. Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo discussed the current regional nutrition situation and explained the rationale and need for the intensive promotion of the NGF. She emphasized that improving the dietary and related practices of the people through the promotion of the NGF will help ease the double burden of malnutrition in the region as there is both a problem of under and overnutrition in NCR.
The LGUs and partner agencies worked on their action plan in promoting the NGF in their respective localities and agencies in the remaining months of 2013 and for inclusion in their 2014 local nutrition action plan (LNAP) and agency workplan. CNPC Edna Cipriano of Navotas City and Ms. Jerly Mae Villanada of Bantay Bata 163 presented their action plans while CNPC Abelyn Bugayong of Parañaque City and Ms. Dorotea Lilia Nuesca of NSO-NCR presented their re-entry plans.
Exciting promotional events and activities have been lined up in 2013 and in the coming year which aim to create not just awareness but hopefully lead to the adoption and sustained practice of the NGF by the public.
