The regional Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) networks of academe, business, civil society, and youth formulated their nutrition action plan for 2023-2025 during the planning workshop held on February 15, 2023 at Tiara Oriental Hotel, Makati City.
A total of 26 members of the Regional SUN Networks of Academe, Business, Civil Society, and Youth participated in the workshop which was facilitated by the National Nutrition Council – NCR (NNC-NCR) led by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa V. Federizo.
As basis for planning, the regional nutrition situation was presented to the group as well as the draft Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028 strategic framework, goals and targets, and interventions. A plenary discussion was conducted to identify the nutrition programs and projects (PPAs) of the Regional SUN Network members and their service areas. In the interest of time, the participants were requested to submit their 2023 Nutrition PPAs for consolidation of NNC-NCR.
In the afternoon, the participants were grouped per network to discuss their plan of action for nutrition for 2023-2025. Draft outputs presented will be enhanced for inclusion in the Regional Plan of Action for Nutrition (RPAN) 2023-2028.
In her message, NNC-NCR Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Milagros Elisa Federizo reiterated the need to work together to solve the problem on hunger and malnutrition and create a bright future for our children.
“We need an environment that will support the health and nutrition of children to let them grow to their full potential,” RNPC Federizo said. “As adults, tayo ang may pananagutan to create a better future for them through good nutrition,” she added.
The SUN Movement is a global movement which unites governments, civil society, donors, businesses, the United Nations, academe, researchers, and citizens in a collective effort to improve nutrition. It encourages multisectoral and multi-stakeholder working together to bring about an end to malnutrition. In NCR, the regional SUN network of business, civil society, academe, and youth were organized in 2022 to work with the government in improving the nutrition situation in the region and in the country.
