The year 2020 has just begun and along with this is the New Year’s resolution to have a healthier lifestyle. The new year also headstarts the festivals here in Region VI. There is the Ati-atihan festival held on the 3rd week of January in Kalibo, Aklan. There is the Sinulog Sa Kabankalan: the grand celebration of Southern Negros held every 3rd Sunday of January. Iloilo City’s pride of festivals, the Dinagyang festival is held every 4th Sunday of the same month.

How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle during the festivity?

Enjoying the festivities means having good music, drinks, food, friends and good weather. There will be sleepless nights, salty, fried, fatty, and sugar-rich foods everywhere; it can be hard to stick to your healthy lifestyle.

The National Nutrition Council Region VI is reminding the public of the 10 Kumainments that would be very useful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle during the festival while being in your gleeful mode!

KUMAINMENT I: KUMAIN NG IBA’T-IBANG PAGKAIN.

Start your day with a nutritious, moderate, and well-balanced breakfast, and succeeding meals from various food sources.

KUMAINMENT II: HINAY-HINAY SA MAALAT, MAMANTIKA AT MATATAMIS.

Go for Healthy options. Limit the intake of salty, fried, fatty, and sugar-rich foods to prevent cardiovascular diseases.

KUMAINMENT VI: TIYAKING MALINIS AT LIGTAS ANG ATING PAGKAIN AT TUBIG.

Make sure you know where to get safe food to eat and water drink. Drink a lot of water to keep your body hydrated.

KUMAINMENT X: MAGING AKTIBO. IWASAN ANG ALAK; HUWAG MANIGARILYO.

Be active and fit! Physical activity incorporated with a healthy lifestyle has numerous benefits. If possible avoid drinking too much alcoholic beverages.
