RO9 GuavaAn inexpensive and humble food is regarded as one of the ‘superfoods’ that gives us numerous health benefits. A tropical fruit that is very much available in the Philippines that contains a great amount of vitamin C- the guava. This low-profile fruit is usually eaten fresh or made into beverages, while its skin and leaf are used as a home remedy during various conditions. Most people think that guava is associated with a person getting colds and this may be true. Moreover, these fruits also have health benefits. Guava is also helpful when having dangerous health problems such as high blood pressure, diarrhea, cough and different types of cancer.

Well, how does guava do all of this? The answer to this question is that guava has a high source of vitamin C and fibres that act as antioxidants. These antioxidants have the tendency to reduce or stop harmful effects pertaining to oxidation. Moreover, guava was found to contain four times more vitamin C than orange, four times more fiber than pineapple and more potassium than a banana. Guava also contains 21% vitamin A, 20% folate and even lycopene. It also contains around 80% of water and this is helpful in keeping you hydrated. These made guava a “superfruit”.

Surely, guava has lots of health and medicinal benefits, but it has to be consumed within the limit. Guava contains fructose like any other fruit, which is harmful when you have uncontrolled sugar or diabetes. For diabetic individuals, make sure to consume guava together with the meal and not as a snack. Anything good must not be abused as it may cause ill-effects.
