An early warning system monitors and analyzes pertinent data that may indicate a potential disaster, such as a food shortage or health issue. It is the routine and periodic gathering of pertinent data (such as food production, climate, food prices, etc.) to assess the state of the municipality’s or city’s food supply and security. It converts gathered data into information that is relevant for decision-makers to take the right action.
It is significant because it enables early forecasting based on current information trends, prompt intervention and warning, identification of susceptible locations and households, and government decisions regarding resource allocation.
NNC9 headed by the Regional Nutrition Program coordinator conducted a 2-day Reorientation on the Local Nutrition Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS FNS) at Hotel Guillermo, Pagadian City last 21-22 November 2022. The activity highlights the discussion of the Background of the LNEWS FNS, the Plans for the Household Survey, the guidelines on Interviewing, the Roles and Functions of the Supervisors (BNS and BHWs), the Introduction of the Survey Tool, and the presentation of the Survey Form.
