PALO, Leyte – BBreast cancer awareness monthreast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is celebrated on the month of October every year.

BCAM is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the impact of breast cancer. Routine mammography screening is one of the most important steps one can take to maintain health, prevent disease and live a healthy life.

The past year has posed a challenge to just about everything, and breast cancer prevention is no exception. Although we saw setbacks in screenings and early detection, we’re rising to the challenge together.

The chance a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer is one in eight; that translates to more than 200,000 new cases each year.

Of these, 70 percent of diagnosed women have no known risk factors. While some women may feel their chance of developing cancer is small, they are taking a risk by not getting recommended screenings.

The Department of Health (DOH) emphasized the importance of regular self-breast exam and the critical role of screening in the early detection and treatment of breast cancer among women in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month with this year’s theme, “United We Fight.”

A breast self-examination (BSE) is a method to detect any noticeable changes in one’s breast. Early detection of any changes in the breast and seeking immediate consultation will increase one’s chances of successful treatment. #NPC-CPD
