Sun 3.0PALO, Leyte – The Scaling Up Nutrition Strategy 2021-2025 (SUN 3.0) prioritizes country leadership and focuses on supporting systemic change at the country level.

It seeks to capture the ambition of SUN countries and guide the work of all actors at all levels- National and sub- national, regional and and global- aligning concerted action behind and responding to commonly agreed national priorities set out by governments in SUN countries.

SUN aims to contribute toward achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Today nine (9) countries in the Southeast Asia participated in the Regional Launch: SUN 3.0 Strategy.

Philippine SUN focal person and National Nutrition Council Assistant Secretary and Executive Director Azucena M. Dayanghirang gave a brief background on the SUN strategy shift from 2.0 to 3.0.

Dr. Dayanghirang stressed out the four strategic objectives in the SUN 3.0 strategy framework: 1) strengthen and sustain policy and advocacy to position nutrition outcomes; 2) develop and align shared country priorities for action; 3) build and strengthen capacity with technical assistance and knowledge management; and 4) ensure SUN governance promotes country leadership and responsibilities, aligns resources and strengthen mutual accountabilities.

Moreover, she further elucidated the key strategic shift from SUN 2.0 to SUN 3.0. Among these are from some else (secretariat) is SUN in 2.0 to you (and we) are all SUN in 3.0; intended to be country-led in 2.0 to country driven, country-led and country own in 3.0; knowledge and technical assistance provided in 2.0 to more strategic knowledge management and technical assistance available to countries on-demand in 3.0; and focus on undernutrition in 2.0 to expanding the focus on all forms of malnutrition (triple burden of malnutrition: stunting and wasting, micronutrient deficiency and overweight and obesity) in 3.0 among others.

Dayanghirang summarized her brief but comprehensive presentation to the following: long standing malnutrition problem needs multi-sectoral actions, each stakeholder and sector has a unique and and critical role and finally she challenged countries by saying TOGETHER WE can! Be ACCOUNTABLE.

Meanwhile, all regions in the Philippines envision to organize Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement by the end of 2021. #NPC-CPD
