food demoPALO, Leyte – Barely two years as MNAO, St. Bernard, Southern Leyte Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Terre Virna B. Tanquezon has already visited all barangays of the municipality.

Challenges that she met is the lack of knowledge among mothers on infant and young child feeding practices specially among 6-59 months old children.

With the challenges above, the MNAO organized a barangay visits together with the MNC for a harmonized and integrated nutrition activities on the barangays.

Activities included cooking demonstration using available resources in the barangays which are cheaper but are nutritious.

The MNAO personally did the demonstration. Nutrition education was given to DepEd nurse and teachers and is planning to partner the nutrition education and information dissemination with an academic institution, the Southern Leyte State University, Tomas Opus campus.

The other MNC members also introduced the nutrition intervention under their own sectors. Included are nutrition sensitive agriculture, supplementary feeding for aged 2-5 years old, and sustainable livelihood projects. Like wise, the Local Civil Registrar was also present to do birth registrations in barangays.

The municipality will create a Nutrition Officer 2 to be designated full time Municipal Nutrition Action Officer with support staff, budget and office. To date, the creation of the Nutrition Officer 2 is to be deliberated in the Sanggunian Bayan.

Moreover, RNPC Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo, Jr shared DBM LBC 53 and 137 as support documents to the creation of plantilla position for Nutrition. #NPC-CPD
