PALO, Leyte – In its efforts to uplift the plight of children in Eastern Visayas, NNC 8 conduct series of activities related to the children’s protection and welfare.

Series of 2022 Updating of Municipal Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP) and integrating it in Annual Investment Program.

There are four major activities in the NAPs that needs to be scale if only to protect the children against the ill effects of malnutrition. These are: 1) Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days to prevent stunting among 0-59 months old children; 2) Philippine Integrated Managment of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) to prevent wasting among 0-59 months old children; 3) Nutrition Sensitive Interventions including agriculture, livelihood and resource generation to ensure food security among families; 4) Enabling Programs to strengthen governance, capacity and institutions for effective implementation of nutrition programs including nutrition in emergencies.

The activity started in Hilongos, Leyte and ECCD F1K area in Leyte. It was followed by the MNAP updating in Leyte with the province and city of Tacloban and 11 municipalities in the province including the municipality of Can-acid in Eastern Samar. Meanwhile , another batch of 2022 MNAP updating in the provinces of Samar and North Samar. Attending are two Provincial Nutrition Committees, 2 cities and 15 municipalities of both province.

Moreover, other activities related to the welfare of children included attendance to Nutrition Shepherding Orientation, Tutok Kainan meeting to address stunting among 6-23 months children in target provinces, city and municipalities, Municipal Nutrition Governance Program for the municipality of Lope de Vega in Northern Samar, Philippine Multi-sectoral Nutrition Project meeting on Supply Chain, Human Resource and Facility Mapping Activity and attending to the validation of Child Friendly Local Government Audit (CFLGA).

Other activities to be conducted in the remaining days of the children’s month include continuation of 2022 MNAP updating in other municipalities covered by the Human Development and Poverty Reduction Cabinet (HDPRC) cluster and Maydolong in Eastern Samar. Likewise, Nutrition in Emergencies and Infornation Management Training in the Province odmf Samar, ECCD F1K Reporting System in Northern Samar, Orientation/re-orientation and MOA signing in the implementation of Local Nutrition in Early Warning System (LNEWS) and the conduct of Virtual Dialogue with Punong Barangays ob Enabling Nutrition Devolution. #NPC-CPD
