SAN JUAN CITY, Dec. 10 (PIA)— The 2020 CALABARZON Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony pushes through despite the COVID-19 pandemic albeit virtually this December 10.

The National Nutrition Council IV-A headed by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Carina Z. Santiago through the assistance of the Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region IV-A awards winners of the 2020 RNAC via Zoom and Facebook Live.

RNAC is an annual award wherein local government units (LGU) and regional line agencies (RLA) are awarded for their best practices in promoting good nutrition in CALABARZON. In contrast with the previous awarding ceremonies, the 2020 RNAC is composed of a different set of awards in line with the non-conduct of the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) due to COVID-19.

In line with the recent Taal Volcano eruption, NNC also awards the 2020 Outstanding Response during the Taal Volcano Eruption for LGUs and RLAs.

The City of Bacoor bags the award for the LGU category City Level and the Calaca, Batangas wins the award for the Municipal Level. Meanwhile, the Department of Health wins the award for the RLA category.

For the 2020 Nutrition Champion Award for COVID-19 Response, The City of Biñan wins the award for City level while Sariaya, Quezon and the Department of Health win the Municipal level and RLA categories respectively.

The 2020 RNAC also includes the Nutrition Hero Award for COVID-19 Response in five categories namely for the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) Category won by Cavite PNAO Angeles Peñalba; City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Category won by Calamba City CNAO Aleli Catalina Jimenez; District/City Nutrition Program Coordinator (D/CNPC) Category won by Tagaytay City’s Marietta Dogelio; Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Category won by Kalayaan MNAO Cecille Flores-Magana and; Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Category won by Barangay Mendez Crossing West, Tagaytay City’s Barangay Nutrition Scholar Donnabel Lazo.

Webby Awards & other recognitions

For this year’s ceremony, NNC IV-A also holds its Webby Awards wherein area awarded for promotion of nutrition information online.

In the LGU Category, the Province of Cavite bags the 2020 Best Social Media Account for Nutrition – Provincial while the City of Bacoor bags the Best Social Media Account for Nutrition – City.

For the Best Social Media Account for Nutrition – Municipal Category Kalayaan, Laguna is awarded as champion while Magdalena, Laguna and Los Baños, Laguna win 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up respectively.

The Department of Science and Technology win the Best Social Media Account for Nutrition for the Regional Line Agency Category.

Sariaya, Quezon’s Radyo Kaisahan 107.7FM also wins a special award for the 2020 Best External Article Contributor and Calaca, Batangas wins the award for the 2020 Best Practices in Nutrition Emergencies.

NNC IV-A also gave special recognition to former DOH IV-A Director Eduardo Janairo for his valuable contributions as then-chair of the Calabarzon Regional Sub-Committee on Nutrition from 2018-2020.

For the first time, the 2020 RNAC includes the Service Award for Retired Nutrition Action Officers for their unparalleled service in ensuring good nutrition in their communities.

RNAC 2020 also awards nutrition partners and supporters such as Unilever Philippines, Breastfeeding Ala Eh and National University as well as Regional Cluster member agencies. (GG)
