The National Nutrition Council (NNC) established two new radio stations, Nutriskwela Radio Kasalip in Pasil, Kalinga and Nutriskwela Radio Kasaranay in Luna Apayaothrough its Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program.

This was followed by a hands on training on radio broadcasting held on April 23-25, 2015 in Pasil, Kalinga and April 27-29, 2015 at ASC, Luna, Apayao for members of the community radio council of each community radio. Both training culminated with the inaugural broadcast and launching of the community radio.

The criteria for the identification of areas for the establishment of radio stations are as follows: absence or limited access to commercial radio broadcasts, willingness of partner to provide counterpart personnel, space and funds for the operations, area pass the technical evaluation of NNC, and feasibility of sustaining the operations of the broadcast facility. The high malnutrition rate in Apayao was also a major consideration for establishment of the radio station in Luna.

To date, the region has four nutriskwela stations that includes the two existing Nutriskwela stations in CAR located in Lagawe, Ifugao and Lagangilang, Abra.

The community radio stations are established nationwide with the aim of empowering the community through the dissemination of correct, relevant and up-to-date nutrition and health information, as well as educational and developmental information from all relevant sectors of the community, government agencies, and non-government organizations.
