b 283 220 2734 0   images RNAC TarpBAGUIO CITY, Jan 10 (PIA) – – The National Nutrition Council – Cordillera (NNC-CAR) gave recognition to the region’s 2011 Most Outstanding Nutrition Program Implementer and Barangay Nutrition Scholars.

In a simple awarding ceremony on Tuesday at Hotel Veniz, here, NNC-CAR OIC Nutrition Program Coordinator Rose Lulu Pagaduan, Department of Health OIC Regional Director Valeriano Jesus Lopez, and event keynote speaker , Dr. Martha Cayad-an, health specialist of UNICEF-Sudan, spearheaded the awarding of the green banner and plaque of recognition to the regional winners.

Awardees for the 2011 Nutrition program ‘Green Banner’ (Most Outstanding Implementor on Nutrition) were the Province of Benguet for the provincial level; City of Baguio – city level, and the Municipality of Tublay, Benguet for the municipal level.

The province of Ifugao and the municipality of Asipulo, Ifugao were also awarded as First Year Maintenance as CROWN awardee and provincial green banner award, respectively.

The Green Banner Award is given to a municipality, city or province, which has shown outstanding performance in implementing its local nutrition action plan. A green banner awardee for three years automatically receives the CROWN (Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner on Nutrition) Award.

For the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Monica Sicat – BNS of City Camp proper, Baguio City led the regional winners. Sicat was also the first runner-up winner in the Most Outstanding BNS 2012 at the national level.

Runner up winners were Mila Buya of Saguba, Kapangan Benguet (1st runner-up), Jennifer Maurera of Pieza, Lamut, Ifugao (2nd runner-up); Epifania Baltazar of Babalag West, Rizal Kalinga (3rd runner-up), and Cora Ann Delos Reyes of Cabaritan, Tabuk City (4th runner up).

The Outstanding BNS were assessed for their efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of basic nutrition and related services in their respective locality.

Pagaduan outlined the importance of giving recognition to outstanding regional, municipal, city nutrition program implementers as well as barangay nutrition scholars, as monitoring and evaluation of nutrition program is an integral function of NCC which aims to assess the strengths and weaknesses in planning and implementing local nutrition action plans. She also called for a continuing partnership from all sectors in ensuring the health and nutrition of the Filipino people, especially pregnant women and children from birth to 2 years old.

The awarding was in coordination with the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) and the Regional Technical Assistance on Nutrition (RTAN).
