
Knowledge on food handling and preparation is required among food handlers. Its critical to determine whether a food is beneficial or detrimental to the body to prevent food poisoning or food borne diseases. In conjunction with this, the City Nutrition Office of Koronadal City, led by City Nutrition Action Officer Nancy Adalin with Assistant Nutritionist Dietitian Mary Jan Conje, Administrative Staff III Marilou Lanoy, and Mary Adel, conducts a Food Safety Orientation to Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
The orientation took place on April 21, 2022, at the KCC Events Center. Koronadal City is one of the beneficiaries of the National Nutrition Council’s Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program. The conduct of food safety orientation is critical for the program’s upcoming implementation. Koronadal City’s Barangay Nutrition Scholars are pioneers in food preparation for all dietary supplementation programs. The City Nutrition Office views knowledge on proper food safety and handling as a requirement in equipping the city’s Barangay Nutrition Scholars. A total of 50 BNSs from various barangays attended the orientation, which was delivered by PNFP Flora May Madrona of the National Nutrition Council Region XII. The orientation covered various food safety risks and proper food handling techniques.
