According to an Official Facebook post of the City Government of Tagum, the launching of the program is in line with the celebration of the National Women’s Month. The post further explained that “Gulayan Sa Pamamahay” is a vegetable gardening program at home that will be carried out by women. This program is a joined effort of the City Government of Tagum, the Gender and Development Office and the City Agriculture Office.

The Facebook post said that the launching was conducted at the City Agriculture Office and spearheaded by Vice Mayor Eva Lorraine Estabillo and Head of Committee on Agriculture, Councilor Ronald Eliot.

The post revealed that there were 50 members of the Tagumpay Council of Women that were handed with vegetable production inputs such as vermicast and vegetable seedlings that will be propagated in their respective backyards.

Home and backyard gardening is one of the nutrition-sensitive strategies mentioned in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) that aims to ensure food and nutrition security at the household level, and therefore expected to reduce hunger and malnutrition.
