San Fernando City, La Union- National Nutrition Council-RO1 (NNC) joined the Commission on Population (PopCom) in their initiative of celebrating the 2nd birthday of the 100 millionth symbolic babies in Region 1 on July 26, 2016 at the ABC Hall, City of San Fernando, La Union.
All four (4) provinces and the city were represented by the symbolic babies namely: Cyrus Jeic Talapian (Ilocos Sur); Princess Colleen Dela Cruz (Ilocos Norte); John Paul (Pangasinan); Trixie Ann Estanilla (La Union) and Ricobien Jacob Francisco (San Fernando City). NNC, in its advocacy to promote good health and proper nutrition especially among infants and children, commits to work hand in hand with POPCOM and with other stakeholders in the field of health and nutrition in order to assist these babies in their physical and mental development during their growing years.
Ms. Esperanza F. Manganti represented NNC in behalf of NPC Ma. Eileen B. Blanco during the said event and stressed that parents should provide the best nutrition for their little babies and that they should teach their children to eat more fruits and vegetables for a healthier body. Moreover, NNC has pledged to assist the families of these symbolic babies through linking with their Local Chief Executives and Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars in their respective areas whenever possible.
