The National Nutrition Council MIMAROPA spearheaded the 2022 First Semester Virtual Monitoring to the municipality of Coron, Palawan on 11th day of August via Zoom Application. The activity was participated by MNAO Elizabeth Balbutan, Dr. Paulo Francisco, Ms. Jessa Castillo, Ms. Carinel Zaragoza, Mr. Ronald Lara, and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from five (5) sentinel barangays.
The Local Nutrition Early Warning System – Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) is a form of monitoring and analysis of collected data, such as food production, food prices, climate, and other factors, that determines the food and nutrition security in the community.
Observations established from the monitoring proper were as follows: 1) There is a delay in the submission of reports conducted by data collectors during household survey due to geographic location of the municipality, 2) Prices of rice, pork, and cooking oil were slightly higher than the average price, 3) LNEWS municipal core group initiated to include the concerns observed to the Irrigation System of National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and 4) The municipal core group has currently four (4) members. Ideally, each core group should be composed of at least five (5) members.
Ultimately, NNC MIMAROPA urges the municipal core group to formulate specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound (SMART) recommendations and present all issues and concerns observed to the Municipal Mayor and members of Municipal Nutrition Committee to generate support in combatting food and nutrition insecurity in the municipality of Coron, Palawan.
