The National Nutrition Council Region III, in partnership with the Department of Education and Big Ben’s Projects, onceagain spearheaded the “NGF: Awit at Sayaw para sa Wastong Nutrisyon” contest. Now on its 3rd year, the event aimed to expand and enhance public awareness on the 10 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos or NGF. The contest also aimed to support the nationwide campaign of the National Nutrition Council on the Promotion of Good Nutrition, with the banner slogan “Wastong Nutrition, Alamin, Gawin at Palaganapin”.
The staging of the contest was made possible through the support provided by the Schools Division Superintendents of the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Provincial Nutrition Action Officers and District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators of the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Zambales. The students were the main target of the activity because of their key role and influence in changing the eating behaviour and lifestyle of their family members.
Three years ago, NNC Central Luzon requested its partner, Big Ben Projects, to create an official nutri-jingle of the NGF which will be used as music material for the “NGF: Awit at Sayaw para sa Wastong Nutrisyon” contest.
The competition was opened to five elementary schools and five secondary schools of each province. The group of elementary students belonged to the “dance category” while those from the secondary level were assigned to the “song and dance category”.
Those from the dance category showcased their dance numbers using the NGF nutri-jingle. The group from the song and dance category, on the other hand, sang the lyrics of the nutri-jingle and danced to the tune of the same music material.
The grand champions receivedPhp3,000.00 cash prize each and a Certificate of Recognition while non-winners were given consolation prizes worth Php500.00 each. The coach for each category also received a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of their efforts and time spent to teach their students.
Prior to the main competition, the NNC-Region III organized an information sharing on the 2015 Nutrition Month theme “Timbang iwasto sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo!” to encourage the students, school heads and teachers, parents and LGU partners who were present to practice a healthy lifestyle through proper diet and exercise to achieve the right weight.
The “NGF: Awit at Sayaw para sa Wastong Nutrisyon” contests were held in the pre-identified provinces of Nueva Ecija, Tarlac and Zambales on August 4, 6 and 11, 2015, respectively.
