The City of Vigan headed by Hon. Juan Carlo Medina received their award as the 2015 Regional Green Banner Awardee, City Category during the 2016 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held last November 29, 2016 at Marand Resort and Spa, Bauang, La Union.San Fernando City, La Union – The NNC LUPang Ilocos and the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) awarded nutrition champions during the 2016 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held at the Marand Resort and Spa, Baccuit Sur, Bauang La Union on 29 November 2016.

The event was attended by around 170 participants from Regional Line Agencies (RLAs) non-government organizations (NGOs), from the various provinces, cites and municipalities in the region. The activity recognized five (5) awardees from three (3) award categories, namely: Green Banner Award as Outstanding City and Municipality in the Region and Outstanding Regional Barangay Nutrition Scholar (ROBNS). Awardees were the following:

1st Runner-Up – Ms. Miraflor M. De Peralta – Brgy. Namalangan, Santa, Ilocos Sur
2nd Runner-Up – Ms. Erlinda V. Galus – Brgy. Patpata 1st, Candon City

The event was graced by Dr. Hector Beńas, Provincial Health Officer of the province of La Union, representing the Governor of La Union, Hon. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III. In his message, Dr. Benas praised the awardees for their exemplary performance in the delivery of efficient, effective and quality health and nutrition programs in their respective areas. He likewise challenged other local government units and Barangay Nutrition Scholars to do more and do better in our fight to eradicate hunger and malnutrition.

Also present to give the awards were, Dr. Runia Aragon, representing DOH RO I and RNC Chair, Dir. Myrna C. Cabotaje, MD, Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) Chair, Ms. Rosemarie Villanueva of DA-RO1, RONDA-1 President Mr. Bernie R. Errasquin, BNS LUPang Ilocos, Inc. President Ms. Nory E. Estoesta, RLANOs representative PNAO Elma S. Irapta and DCNPCAP-Region 1 Chapter Vice-President Marina Imelda A. Tugelida.
