Joint CAR and NNC

The National Nutrition Council developed and instituted the establishment of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations in partnership with a Local Government Units or State Universities or Colleges with the intention of empowering the community through radio with the dissemination of accurate, current, and relevant information about nutrition and health, as well as educational and developmental information from all concerned sectors of the community.

The National Nutrition Council CAR and Region II successfully conducted a 3-day joint Region-led Training on the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program at Orchard Hotel, Baguio City last November 21-24, 2022.

The training and workshop aimed to orient the new management personnel of the nutriskwela community network in both regions.

Nutriskwela Community Radio Program is founded and instituted to promote nutrition and community development programming wherein, 60% of airtime is devoted to nutrition and development programs and the rest is music with no advertisements. This is to contribute to nutrition improvement by broadcasting nutrition and community development programs.

RNPC Bella Basalong of NNC CAR warmly welcomed the participants of the 3-day training. She also presented the Profile of the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program and its objectives.

Meanwhile, Mr. Christopher Bartolo of DZWT AM Supervisor, shared to participants the essence of community radio.

DMO II John Nestor Ballad of NNC Region 02 discussed Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program and Nutriskwela Monitoring tool and the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station Policy and Editorial Policy.

Ms. Juliet Atiagan of Radyo Kalugaran in Claveria, Cagayan, shared how to operate the Nutriskwela and the personnel involved in its operations.

All community radio station managers shared their best practices to the participants.

DMO II Velanie Dao-Ines of NNC CAR presented and discussed Promoting Nutrition through the Nutriskwela Community Radio.

The activity was also joined by a resource speaker from the Benguet State University, Ms. Nora Sagayo. She was able to present and discussed the Radio Broadcast Voice and Effective Anchoring and Interviewing Techniques and Writing for Radio and Field Reporting that included role playing and a workshop for the participants.

Another resource speaker from the PIA CAR Region, Ms. Jamie Malingan, discussed Digital Media and Social Media Broadcasting.

DMO II Ballad was also able to present the Rules and Regulations on Radio Broadcast, and monitoring and evaluation of Nutriskwela community radio program.

An educational tour capped-off the training workshop, participants visited the Radyo Pilipinas in Baguio City for the hands-on broadcast equipment operation and proper maintenance of radio equipment.

DMO II Ballad delivered the closing remarks and emphasized the importance of being receptive to the Nutriskwela radio network. He hoped that all participants will apply all the knowledge they have learned in their respective radio stations.

The workshop was attended by thirty participants composed of Station Managers, Program Managers, Radio Technician, IT staff, Reporters from the Radio Station of Nutriskwela Community Radio in both regions. – John Nestor L. Ballad
