Seventy-five (75) pregnant beneficiaries of the National Nutrition Council’s Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program (TK-DSP) attended a culminating activity conducted by the Parañaque City Nutrition Committee on March 28 to mark the end of the 90-day dietary supplementation program.
Parañaque City is one of the four program areas of TK-DSP in NCR with 75 pregnant beneficiaries from five (5) barangays who received daily food supplementation provided by the program for 90 days. NNC’s TK-DSP aims to fight malnutrition and prevent stunting in the first 1000 days of life, especially during the pandemic.
Before the culminating activity started, barangay nutrition scholars (BNSs) weighed the beneficiaries to determine their nutritional status. This is done by the BNSs every 30 days to check their nutritional status which will be reported through text to the TK-DSP reporting system of the NNC.
Also in attendance during the culminating event is Assistant City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Dr. Cristina Peñaflorida who delivered a message, “Ang Tutok Kainan ay hindi pa nagtatapos dito ngayong araw. Ito ay magpapatuloy pa rin hanggang sa inyong mga bahay pero kayo na at ang inyong mga kasama sa bahay ang mag-aalaga at magmomonitor nang inyong kalusugan upang masiguro natin na ang mga ipapanganak ninyo ay malulusog.”
Asst. CNAO Peñaflorida added the importance of pregnant mothers attending prenatal checkups and improving the quality of their food intake for their health and that of their babies. She also highlighted the need for pregnant mothers to continue to practice at home what they learned from TK-DSP.
Provincial Nutrition Focal Point Diana Jean Umali attended the activity in two (2) barangays and delivered a message emphasizing the significance of Tutok Kainan DSP in the prevention of stunting and malnutrition during the child’s first 1000 days of life.
