
KIDAPAWAN CITY—The City Nutrition Committee members of Kidapawan City had undergone Training on Nutrition in Emergencies held on February 7-9, 2023 at FCG Hotel & Convention Center, Barangay Binoligan, Kidapawan City.
The training was attended by the CNC members, CNC permanent alternates, NGO’s, BNS, and CNPCs from the City. Development Management Officer II, Ms. Danah Pearl Aurel represented NNC XII as one of the Resource persons covering topics on Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, The Cluster Approach, Basic Concepts of Nutrition and Malnutrition, Importance of Nutrition in Emergencies, Nutritional Assessment, Dietary Supplementation. Nutritionist-Dietitian IV of DOH-CHD XII, Ms. Jessen Masukat discussed the other Minimum Service Package which include: Infant and Young Child Feeding, Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition and Micronutrient Supplementation.
A brief overview of Information Management was also given to the participants, which entails operational and monitoring tools and systems for data collecting, processing, and management. Hence, this will enable Nutrition Cluster members and stakeholders deliver immediate data and information effectively during emergencies.
Further, DMO II Aurel also facilitated the formulation of the LGU’s DRRM-H-NIE Plan as an output of the said training. Kidapawan City’s Nutrition Cluster is set for another meeting to polish their plan for approval and mainstreaming.
Nutrition in Emergencies is part of Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition and is recognized as a nutrition-specific intervention which protects the nutritional status of vulnerable groups affected by emergencies. The objective of the three-day training is to increase the capabilities of health and nutrition workers and other partners to efficiently manage, prepare for, and respond to emergencies and disasters.
