It’s been over a year now since COVID-19 hit the country. As of 6 May 2021, the Department of Health recorded a total of 1,080,172 with 62,170 active cases. Undeniably, we need to invest in our health now more than ever. By eating the right food and observing the proper health protocols, we can avoid being infected with this virus.
One of the most vital functions the human body has is the immune system. It defends the body from infections and protects it to maintain overall health. If you want to boost your immune system, you need to decide for lifestyle changes to make you fit and healthy.
1. Drink plenty of water
Being hydrated is crucial in maintaining overall health. According to the article by Makati Medical Center, dehydration affects physical performance, digestion, and heart and kidney function, thus increasing the susceptibility of illness. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to be hydrated.
2. Quit smoking
Chemicals released by cigarette smoke may interfere with the functions and growth of immune cells. Generally, smoking or even inhaling second hand smoke is dangerous to your overall health.
3. Get enough sleep
Getting adequate sleep may strengthen your natural immunity. Ensure ample sleep time by managing stress, reducing smartphone and gadget use before bed, and maintaining a nighttime routine. Aim to get 7 or more hours of sleep each night.
4. Maintain a healthy diet
Invest in citrus fruits such as oranges and lemons. These are great sources of vitamin C, which are key to fighting infections and help build up the immune system. Your body doesn’t produce vitamin C, thus you need to turn to vitamin C-rich foods.
5. Stay active
Engage in moderate exercise. Moderate exercises may reduce inflammation and help your immune cells regenerate regularly. Try jogging, swimming, light hiking, or brisk walking and aim to exercise at least 4 days a week.
With the rising positive cases of COVID-19 in our country, we need to boost our resistance by improving the functions of our immune system. With a strengthened immune system which is coupled with the observance of COVID-19 protocols and having a healthy diet, surely our body can defend from infection and other illnesses. So stay healthy by boosting your immunity.
