ro10 ozamiz city fns ews teamOzamiz City is all set for the establishment and operationalization of the Early Warning System on Food and Nutrition Security (EWS-FNS) after the City EWS Team and Survey Enumerators training last February 17-20.

The Ozamiz City EWS Team members were equipped with knowledge and skills on nutrition and nutrition-related data analysis and on the management and maintenance of the EWS-FNS. The composition, membership and roles of the EWS team were also finalized during the training with CNAO Lelita G. Navarez as the Team Leader. The team also formulated its 2015 EWS-FNS workplan.

The City survey enumerators composed of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and Rural Health Midwives of the five sentinel barangays, on the other hand, were trained on household data collection. The training focused mainly on the collection of household data on food insecurity, dietary diversity and nutritional status. To ensure the support of barangay leaders, the survey enumerators were joined by their respective Punong Barangays and Kagawads on Health during the training.

Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., together with Vice-Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog-Echavez confirmed their support in operationalizing the EWS-FNS. Councilor on Health Octavio Parojinog Jr., also announced the provision of allowance to the survey enumerators during data collection set to start in April.

The training was facilitated by Ms. Alona E. Teo, Nutrition Officer II of the Nutrition Surveillance of the National Nutrition Council Central Office with assistance from NNC X. rebjr
