Butuan City– On 16 November 2022, the Municipality of Tagbina in Surigao del Sur through its Mayor and the Chairperson of the Municipal Nutrition Committee, Mayor Glaiza Jane P. Lanete received height boards and salter scales endorsed by the National Nutrition Council Caraga, OIC, Dr. Nino Archie S. Labordo.

Mayor Lanete thanked NNC Caraga for identifying the municipality as the recipient of said measuring tools. The tools are important to take the height and the weight of children, the good Mayor added.

In the latest Operation Timbang Plus (OPT+), the Municipality of Tagbina ranked third with high prevalence of stunting, recorded at 15.09%.

Dr. Labordo encouraged to increase the OPT+ coverage to above 80% in order to capture better nutrition situation for the municipality.

Likewise, OIC Labordo lobbied for capacity building for the barangay nutrition scholars to better equipped them on assessment and nutrition program management.

Also present during the endorsement is the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, Mr. Warlito D. Urtua who at the same time manning, as head of the Municipal Agriculture and Tourism Office.

The tools are from UNICEF Philippines shared to Caraga after typhoon Odette hit the region in 2021.
