In Western Visayas, 3 provinces were successfully analyzed during the IPC Chronic Food Insecurity Workshop Round 3 at Asian Institute of Management, Makati City, last March 20-24, 2017.
The provinces include Iloilo, Negros Occidental and Capiz. Guimaras and Aklan were also included in the list of provinces to be analyzed, however, due to lack of valid data for analysis, their results were considered invalid. Antique, on the other hand, was not analyzed at all due to lack of supporting data.
The facilitators of the workshop were: Mr. Feroz Ahmed, IPC Regional Trainer and Data Analyst for Asia; Ms. Nusha Choudhury – IPC Regional Coordinator for Asia; Ms. Hygeia Ceres Catalina Gawe – Chair, Nutrition Surveillance Division, NNC; Ms. Leah M. Felismino – IPC National Data Analyst, FAO Philippines; and Mr. Edwin Lavapie – IT Officer I, Nutrition Surveillance Division, NNC.
IPC is a set of standardized protocols (tools and procedures) to classify the severity of food insecurity situations for evidence-based strategic decision-making. It provides information on the situation, the most affected geographical areas and populations within those areas, the duration and timeframe and the driving factors.
The results of the analysis will be sent to the Global Support Unit for quality review before its presentation and dissemination through NNC Technical Committee and Regional Nutrition Committees. Integrated Food Security Classification – Chronic Food Insecurity Analysis aims to cover all provinces in the Philippines.
