PALO, Leyte – The DILG in close coordination with DOH and other national government agencies conduct the second leg of (Kasapatan at Ugnayan ng Mamamayan sa Akmang Pagkain at Nutrisyon or KUMAIN.
The second leg of KUMAIN Multi-stakeholder Consultation Meeting on the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP) for the Visayas cluster.
The PMNP, a World Bank assisted project would support the Government of the Philippines to adopt a bold, multi-sectoral nutrition approach to deliver a coordinated package of nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions across the LGU platforms together with harmonized social behavior change and communication (SBCC) strategy.
The project development objective aims to increase the simultaneous utilization of a package of nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions and improve key behaviors and practices known to reduce stunting in targeted local government units (PMNP Project Brief, 2021).
LGUs with the highest burden of childhood stunting based on best available data. Project beneficiaries will be those children below 5 years old with special focus on 6-23 months old which stunting becomes largely irreversible. Likewise, the project will target pregnant and lactating women in selected LGUs.
Moreover, the project has three major components. Component 1 will be on strengthen delivery of nutrition and primary services, Component 2 will be on community- based nutrition service delivery and multi-sectoral nutrition convergence and Component 3 will be on institutional strengthening, monitoring and evaluation.
In Eastern Visayas at least 4 provinces are included in the PMNP project, these are the provinces of Leyte, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar. In Leyte l, 22 municipalities are targeted, 21 in Samar, 13 in Eastern Samar and 14 in Northern Samar.
