ORMOC CITY – It was a Sunday and an impending typhoon is soon to arrive in the Philippine Area of Responsibility, but did not dampen the spirit of Punong Barangays, Brgy. Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), Kagawad on Health and other barangay officials to attend a very important activity, the Barangay Nutrition Action Planning (BNAP) and Budgeting Workshop.

The workshop is timely with the submission of barangay nutrition action plan to be incorporated in the Barangay Development Plan based on the provision of DBM Local Budget Circular 82.

Said DBM LBC 82 mandated all punong barangays to align their nutrition programs, projects and activities (PPAs) with the Philippine Planning of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022.

The BNAP is an accompanying document in the submission of the barangay budget for 2022 for it to be concurred or approved by the next higher legislators, in this case the Municipal Sanguniang Bayan.

The workshop is also an opportunity to enable the barangays to include nutrition PPAs in their Devolution Transition Plans (DTPs) consistent with EO 138 or otherwise known as the Mandanas-Garcia Supreme Court Ruling.

The activity of two batches is funded by the municipal government of Alang-alang with counterpart from the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) of the same municipality.

NNN 8, Leyte Provincial Nutrition Office, Provincial Budget Office, MNC Alang-alang and the Federated Sangguniang Kabataan were the facilitators and resource speakers of the planning/workshop.

At the end of the workshop the participants are expected to formulate or update their Barangay Nutrition Action Plans (BNAPs) and their Annual Investment Programs for the year 2022.

These documents are then incorporated in the municipality’s Comprehensive Development Plan and Annual Investment Program for the year 2022. #NPC-CPD
