Southern Leyte Nutrition assessmentPALO, Leyte – The National Nutrition Council, as the nutrition cluster lead agency, has deployed three response teams to conduct initial assessment in Southern Leyte, four days after Typhoon Odette battered the province last week.

RNPC Catalino P. Dotollo Jr. led the response teams together with NNC8’s provincial nutrition focal points and nutrition officers.

Maasin City and the towns of Bontoc, Sogod, Tomas Oppus, Silago, Hinunangan, and Hinundayan were among the severely-affected areas visited on Tuesday.

Majority of these LGUs reported lack of prepositioned nutrition commodities such as food supplements.

Meanwhile, some evacuees from these areas have not yet returned to their places after the typhoon totally destroyed their houses. Most evacuation centers have no proper kitchen and breastfeeding areas.
Initially, the nutrition cluster distributed BNS kits and various IEC materials which includes “no milk donation” and “breastfeeding area” posters.

This activity from Dec. 21-22 was conducted in coordination with the Department of Health. #PNFP-GAS
