Tacloban City– “Palangga” a mascot (child) provided with the foundations of optimum health, growth and neurodevelopment in the first 1,000 days toured over Calbayog City on 7 July 2021 during the launching of the 47th Nutrition Month Celebration in Calbayog, City, Samar.
Conceptualized in 2019 as the icon by the City Nutrition Office, the mascot named “Palangga” which means love provided attention from individuals, families, stakeholders and the whole community for support to the nutrition implementation particularly the 1,000 days of life program.
Palangga together with the team from the City Nutrition Office visited the five district areas of Calbayog.
The office provided the Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials especially on the first 1000 days, nutrition flyers and other references to main health centers of the city, said by City Nutrition Action Officer, Dr. Roy Maribojoc.
Likewise, the team visited a local radio station in the city and provided information on the City’s lined up activities for the long nutrition month celebration.
Dr. Maribojoc calls other stakeholders to join in the Nutrition Month Celebration and engage with the first 1000 days program, as a focus strategy to reduce malnutrition.
