Radyo Kausbawan (RK), the only community radio station of Palompon, Leyte, launched its Nutrition School On the Air (NSOA) program during its 3rd Anniversary on March 12, 2018, Friday, at the Palompon Civic Center. RK Station Manager Rothelia Maria G. Ugsad introduced anchors DJ Sam (Visame Arellano, AB Com. faculty) and DJ Ams (Amed Cabugoy, HRM faculty) of the 12-session NSOA program which will start on April 11, 2018 every Wednesday, 10-11 am over DYNG-FM, 103.1 MHz. RK’s NSOA program will feature the 10 Kumainments of the National Nutrition Council (NNC). In fact, it has already started inviting its listeners through an enrolment through text, call, walk-in or social media. Prizes will be given to NSOA listeners during the quiz every after session and a certificate of completion will be given after the 12 sessions. Meantime, Palompon Mayor Ramon C. Onate commended RK for giving out truthful information per feedback from the barangays, creating eloquent RK DJs and emcees. “I wish RK 300 more birthdays to come,” he jokingly said.
On the other hand, NNC Region 8 Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Catalino P. Dotollo Jr. also congratulated RK for being a unified, very active, multi-awarded and one of the best Nutriskwela community radio network programs from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi. “That only shows that RK has an impact and is not dead…we were not mistaken to establish RK here in Palompon…in fact, in the last three years, Palompon, is improving its nutrition situation,” he said. It has been recalled that during the NNC 3rd Community Radio Awards, RK garnered the Best Program Manager title by its Program Manager Ryan N. Wenceslao and the outputs of the summer 2017 AB Communication OJTs became the finalist for Best Original Nutrition Plug. RK also highlighted the 1st Mini-Nutriskwela Community Radio Awards recognizing the Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) AB Communication juniors who handled eight programs during the 2nd semester, SY 2017-2018. The awardees were Panikaysikay sa Barangay as Best Program and Best Sectoral Program, Larnie L. Bacalando as Best Female Broadcaster, Marthy John Lubiano as Best Male Broadcaster, Kahibaw Ba Mo? as Best Nutrition Radio Segment, Istoryahanay sa Banay as Best Program with Production Values, PIT News Updates as Best News Program and Kara-OK Challenge as Most Innovative Program. The RK’s Community Radio Council (CRC)’s general assembly and election of officers were also conducted by the PIT AB Com. Vital Organization of Intellectual and Eloquent Speakers (VOICES). The elected officers were Chair Regulus P. Diansay, Vice-Chair (Internal) Dr. Virginia S. Beltran, Vice-Chair (External) Cleofe P. Rivera, Secretary Diana Veronica B. Montejo, new Treasurer Dr. Rose A. Arceno and Yuri Yangco. An oath-taking was also done by the new set of CRC members who represented the different community sectors like LGU, the Rural Health Unity, Department of Education, Police, etc.. Other highlights during the celebration were some inspiring testimonials from RK avid listeners, a Nutri-Quiz Bowl, Raffle Draw of RK Prizes donated by the CRC officers and a Nutri-Zumba Fitness. RK 103.1 MHz was established by NNC in partnership with PIT to empower the community through radio broadcasting by disseminating correct, current and relevant nutrition and health information as well as educational and developmental information. ### (Rothelia Maria G.
