TACLOBAN CITY – On 23-25 June, World Vision, together with UNICEF, held a three-day online training on “Maternal Neonatal, Infant and Young Child Health and Nutrition” via the Zoom Application, with participants from both Eastern Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula. The training aims to enhance competencies and build capacity of health and nutrition workers and partners who are involved in maternal nutrition and infant and young child health and nutrition programs.
With a total of 9 modules, the training took three days, taking up 3 modules a day. The first day of training was centered on children’s rights, the importance of health and nutrition of the mother and child in the first 1,000 days of life, and care and nutrition during pregnancy. The second day of training was centered on recommended IYCF practices, counseling on maternal, infant and young children, and IYCF during emergencies. The third day of training was centered on child development and nutrition, behavior change activities, and community organizing and supportive supervision.
The online training series is part of the two-year project by World Vision and UNICEF entitled, “The Integrated Nutrition and Health Actions in the First 1,000 Days of Life Project”. This project supports the government at the national and local levels in implementing an integrated and comprehensive approach for the delivery of maternal, infant, child and adolescent nutrition and health services in the critical first 1,000-day window by strengthening nutrition and health systems and improving access to services and contribute to meeting government’s commitments to scale up nutrition.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic disrupting our customary delivery of health and nutrition services, modifications in the programs, as well as capacity building, were significantly needed to appease the demands of the community; thus the need to enhance competencies and build capacities of more health and nutrition workers in the city/municipal and barangay level.
Accordingly, succeeding training will be held among the City/Municipal Level and Barangay Level. #NO1DAFLendero
