PALO, Leyte – A veggie bread processing facility will soon serve freshly baked nutritious products in one of the biggest Yolanda resettlement sites in Tacloban City, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) announced on Thursday (June 3, 2021).
The project in San Isidro village is funded under the DOST8’s Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Program and will be adopting the technologies of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) which products are also used to address the malnutrition problem of the country.
“One of the biggest relocation sites for typhoon victims will soon enjoy the benefits of freshly baked nutritious breads, enriched with natural vegetables such as squash, carrots, or malunggay,” DOST Leyte provincial director John Glenn Ocaña said in a social media post.
Since all equipment has already been purchased, Ocaña said that would-be plant workers will be trained on Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices in the early part of July.
Project launching will be scheduled once it becomes fully operational by September 2021, he added.
The facility is expected to be fully operational by September serving freshly baked nutritious breads, enriched with natural vegetables such as squash, carrots, or malunggay. #GSabalza
